Different type of vedas.

The Vedas are the oldest sacred texts of Hinduism and are considered the foundation of Hindu philosophy, rituals, and spirituality. There are four main types of Vedas, each with its own set of texts and hymns. These four Vedas are:

1. Rigveda: The Rigveda is the oldest Veda and consists of a collection of hymns (suktas) addressed to various deities. It contains a total of 1,028 hymns divided into ten books (Mandalas). The Rigveda hymns are mainly praises and prayers to gods like Indra, Agni, Varuna, and Soma.

2. Samaveda: The Samaveda is primarily a collection of melodies and chants derived from the verses of the Rigveda. It contains hymns that are meant to be sung during religious rituals, particularly the soma sacrifice. The Samaveda is organized into two main parts: the "Purvarchika" (early section) and the "Uttararchika" (later section).

3. Yajurveda: The Yajurveda contains prose mantras and verses used during Vedic rituals and sacrificial ceremonies. It is divided into two parts: the "White Yajurveda" (Shukla Yajurveda) and the "Black Yajurveda" (Krishna Yajurveda). The White Yajurveda primarily focuses on rituals and contains explanations and instructions for conducting ceremonies, while the Black Yajurveda combines ritualistic elements with philosophical reflections.

4. Atharvaveda: The Atharvaveda is a collection of hymns, incantations, spells, and charms. It covers a wide range of subjects, including rituals, prayers, healing practices, and daily life concerns. Unlike the other three Vedas, the Atharvaveda includes hymns and spells that address practical aspects of life, such as disease, fertility, marriage, and protection against evil forces.

These four Vedas, along with their associated Brahmanas (commentaries) and Aranyakas (forest treatises), form the core scriptures of Hinduism. They provide insights into ancient Indian culture, religious practices, and philosophical ideas.
